The Story of Black & Ginger Wines & Hounds Run Vineyard

Two Brands. One Living System.

Hounds Run Vineyard and Black & Ginger Wines are deeply connected — but they are not the same thing.

They share the same land in the Grampians, the same hands, and the same commitment to quality. But each plays a distinct role. One grows the fruit. The other brings it to life.

Hounds Run Vineyard: Organic Vineyard in the Grampians

Located in the heart of the Grampians wine region, Hounds Run Vineyard is a certified organic vineyard shaped by the realities of farming.

Named after Paddy and Hunter — Hadyn and Lucy’s hounds — it’s a place built on long days, seasonal challenges, and deep respect for the land.

Frost, fire and drought are all part of the rhythm here. These conditions don’t just shape the vineyard — they shape the character of the fruit.

Every bottle begins here.

Hounds Run is also a place to experience. A tiny house overlooking the vines offers guests the chance to slow down, reconnect, and see first hand where wine begins — from sunrise over the vineyard to wildlife at dusk.

Black & Ginger Wines: Small Batch Grampians Wine

Black & Ginger Wines is the expression of that vineyard.

Founded by winemaker Hadyn Black and Darcy “Ginger” Naunton, the focus is simple: small batch wines made for drinking, sharing and enjoying.

The range celebrates classic Grampians varieties like Shiraz and Riesling, alongside more playful releases — all crafted with a focus on balance, flavour and drinkability.

Each wine tells a story. From Lily’s Block Shiraz, to Lucy’s Rosé and Virginia Merlot, honouring family legacy, the wines reflect both place and people.

Not all fruit comes from Hounds Run. Not all Hounds Run fruit becomes Black & Ginger wine.

This distinction is intentional — and essential.

Why Two Brands Matter

Hounds Run Vineyard is focused on sustainable farming and producing high-quality fruit. Black & Ginger Wines is focused on connection — bringing wine to life through tastings, events and experiences that feel relaxed and inclusive.

Together, they represent a complete approach to wine: thoughtful farming, expressive winemaking, and meaningful customer experiences.

A Living System

This is more than a vineyard and a wine label. It’s an ecosystem.

The land, the wine, and the people who experience it are all part of the same story. Hounds Run provides the foundation. Black & Ginger brings the energy. Together, they create something that feels real, grounded and alive — a true reflection of the Grampians.
