The Black & Ginger Wines Story
Taste the wild side!
What happens when two long-time mates, Hadyn Black and Darcy “Ginger” Naunton, turn their passion for wine into something more? Black & Ginger Wines was born. With a love for the unconventional, we craft wines from alternative grape varietals, as well as some classic, sourced primarily from The Grampians in Victoria but also source grapes from neighbouring wine regions and occasionally further afield—always with the goal of making bloody good drops that are vibrant, intriguing, and full of character.
Based in the stunning Grampians Wine Region, we’re proud members of Grampians Wine, continuing to push the boundaries while staying true to the craft.
What is Black & Ginger Wines?
Black & Ginger Wines is a small, independent winery based in the heart of Victoria’s Grampians region, producing handcrafted, small-batch wines known for bold flavour, personality, and a strong sense of place.
We combine premium regional fruit with playful storytelling, dog-friendly hospitality, and immersive tasting experiences at their cellar door in Pomonal, designed for curious wine drinkers.
What kind of wines do we make?
Black & Ginger crafts expressive small-batch wines including Shiraz, Riesling, Grenache, Vermentino, Graciano and other alternative varietals, showcasing both Grampians and Victorian fruit. Black & Ginger wines are made for curious wine drinkers, adventurous palates, and visitors who love character filled wines paired with relaxed, dog-friendly cellar door experiences.
Why the Grampians?
The Grampians is one of Australia’s most distinctive cool-climate wine regions, shaped by ancient soils, altitude, and dramatic natural landscapes. The region is especially renowned for Shiraz and Riesling, producing wines with natural acidity, structure, and longevity.
At Black & Ginger, we both grow our own fruit, at Hounds Run Vineyard and work closely with trusted regional growers to showcase the diversity of the Grampians, crafting wines that reflect both vineyard character and vintage conditions — wines that feel grounded, expressive, and unmistakably from place. We’ll also source quality fruit from neighbouring regions when we find something we like.
